TV changing colors on 4 ends

One end is turning yellow-green, blue, purple, and blue.

What the heck is wrong?
All the TVs I buy seem to do this. I don't have any magnets around them and I place my speakers away from them. Can I fix this and how?

thanks.

You need to de-gauss them. TV sets usually do not have means of doing that all by themselves (unlike computer CRT monitors). Time to take them to a TV repair shop ... it's a procedure that doesn't require disassembling the thing - just the right tool and the skillz 😉

you just need a degaussing wang, and you start in the middle and start spiraling outwards. not too bad, you could probably get it done for free if oyu go to the right place (which wouldn't be a TV repair shop, btw.)

hee. I just noticed I typod "wand" for "wang". I'm keeping it there. 🙂

if all the TVs that are doing this are in the same spot, then you definitely have something going on around there. check for any sort of magnetism at all.

Sounds like your Televisions' CRTs have become magnetized. If this was only happening on one set, I might also suspect chroma or convergence problems, but you said "all the TV's...".

Televisions have a built in degaussing coil which is activated for a brief moment when the set it turned on. Unfortunately, the built-in coils don't work very well. One can buy a degaussing coil to demagnetize a CRT. You sort of wave the coil in front of the screen then pull it away; no disassembly of the set is required.

I bought a degaussing coil 20 years ago for 20 USD. Just poked around the web - prices are now closer to 50 USD.

Good luck!

EDIT: Sorry, I did not mean to repeat Amorphos' post - I started typing a reply and was interruped by my door bell. Amorphos posted in the meantime.

you have more problems than that if all your TVs do it. do you live near power lines? are your home's wiring screwed up the pooch?

also, this is not a tech support forum.

an external magnetic field has interfered with the electron gun and is causing the problem. generally this is caused by magnets, but substandard wiring can cause this, as well as lightning storms. local power lines and other misc things can also cause a magnetic field. while modern TVs do have degaussing coil, they are merely there to undo the effects of earth's (relatively weak) magnetic field.
