hauppage's wintv works pretty well for me, cost is about $70 for the version that has s-video out (the standard version). There's also an LE and delux edition (specifically for video editing) that you might want to look into. All Hauppage cards are XP compatible and as far as i can tell, it's their only product, so they work pretty hard to maintain recent drivers for.

On the other end of the spectrum is the time-honored ATI-tv wonder, which costs about the same, and has pretty much the same functions. I dunno about the tv quality though cuz i never had one before. What i've been picking up from their website is that there's no future plans to update the product driver, which is pretty bad considering that the current drivers don't even have XP compatability (and i doubt 2k compatability either).

hope this helps :)

I have a wintv theater from Hauppauge it rocks...but if you are talking about real realtime video editing (applying effects, transitions etc in realtime) you will have to look at a better card. Perhaps Matrox RT2500 it has real realtime editing features.

...and I've got an ATi TV-Wonder.. got it for $95 bucks OEM - including the software and manuals and cables and the lil velcro sticker thing...

Anyway, it's running perfectly under win2k - I can record in seconds and then compress the output (mpeg2, mpeg1 or Avi) to DivX or whatever. The quality is great considering the resolution differences between my monitor and the normal television signal. Can't seem to find the advertised software that's supposed to give me the listings though...

Oh, and it was a lil bit of a hassle getting it to run properly, had to get an update from the ATi site, but once I read their directions and installed the new software, it ran.

That price is in Canadian doll hairs and I think it's the same from coast to coast.. (I was gonna get it Ottawa, but I moved to Vancouver and got it there... but that's a whole nuther story)
