All problems seem unique but perhaps my situation is similar to someone with a vacation home, etc.

I live in Eastern Europe - spend several months there then return to San Diego for a short visit. I want U.S. programming over there.

My first idea was to buy two TiVos and swap them, but then I read about the ATI 9700 with Guide+ and it sounds even better. I could simply swap hard drives when I am in San Diego and would have much more content that with TiVo.

I have a computer here and there and a friend in San Diego who is willing to help.

I know something about computers, but virtually nothing about video capture, codecs, resolution, etc. and I'm not a gamer.

Questions:

1. Is this plan feasible?
2. What hardware/software would I need?
3. What are the problem areas?
4. Are there good web sources (other forums, etc.)

Any help will be appreciated, on or off list,

Thank you,
