TV Capture Cards

Basically I'm thinking of getting a capture card and have a few questions. My main reason for it would be to capture playing some xbox games. I just want to know what type of card is good to get for something like that. It doesn't have to be the top notch quality recording in 100000x100000 pixels or anything, just something to get that job done. I also want to know about how much $$$ I would be looking to spend on this.

Thanks if you can help.

i want to be able to capture from my TV. my xbox is hooked to my DLP. i want to capture whats happening on my TV onto my PC. sorry i didn't clarify this. my TV also has a video output on the back of it, so can i just play the xbox hooked to my TV, run the video output on the rear of my TV to the capture card, and then capture the video on my PC?

You want a PCI card, to eliminate the inherent lag of (compressing) USB devices. Resolution will always be 480 lines for NTSC, 640x480 typical grab resolution.

Best choice in this are those cards that already use a "silicon" tuner (not a bunch of analog stuff in a big tin shielding), e.g. LifeView's Platinum series. From www.lifeview.com online stores.

I use one of them regularly to watch TV, and also to play various game consoles on the computer screen.

Yes that will work.

i heard that if i use the video out on my TV (i have a samsung DLP) from the standard yellow cable video out, that if i have my xbox hooked up w/component cables, that it will not capture properly.

is this true? would i have to have my xbox hooked up w/svideo or composite cables in order to capture via the video out on my TV? or can i hook up the xbox to my TV w/component cables, run the compositive video out to the capture card, and it captures fine?
