Was flipping through the channels (Dish network), and noticed they were supposed to show Sleepy Hollow, but there's still a stupid baseball game going on. 11th inning, and still no end in sight.

They were supposed to start at 3:30, and they are already 15 minutes behind. So, what are they going to do to get back on schedule? Show less commercials? Cut the movie?

They cut into the movie. You've never heard the announcers say : "We now cut into your regular programming already in progress"

Hmm, they went into commercials, and the commentator promised to "be back after this"
Wow.
They came back to the game.

You are right, they "joined the following program already in progress"
First time I see that. I guess I don't watch enough tv.

"up next on TBS for the east coast, sleepy hollow..."

The commentator screwed up - The Sleepy Hollow is for the West Coast, too.
