TV blinks/flickers once when connected to HTPC

Hope someone would provide me with suggestions on a video issue I have with my HTPC. It is a pretty basic one based on Core i3 Ivy Bridge (HD 4000 Graphics) with HDMI video out directly to my 52' Full HD Philips LED. The OS is Win 8. I use my HTPC for music and movie rips stored on a local hard drive. the playback software is J River MC 19.

The issue that I am referring to is that upon turning my HTPC and TV on, I get one screen blink/flicker for about 1 second. This happens probably after 7-10 minutes after I turn my system on, and it doesn't matter whether I am on desktop or watching movies, so it is certainly not a media playback issue (I tried other players and the results are the same). After this blink it never happens again until I turn off and on my TV.

All my drivers are up to date, my HDMI cable works fine, and overall the system is very stable operating without any issues. If I connect any other HDMI devices to my TV (like PS3) I never get any flicker.

So now I narrowed my issue down to the following: (1) Intel graphics, (2) Win 8, or (3) somehow incompatibility of my HTPC and TV (maybe as result of either #1 or 2). Neither of these options can be easily tested as they require hardware replacement or OS re-installation. I am certainly not an expert, so my assessment may be wrong, therefore I would very much like to hear opinions from more experienced HTPC users and from those who may operate a similar system.

Thanks a lot in advance.

It sounds like the TV is adjusting the resolution o match the input, but that usually happens when the TV is switched from another source or when a program (like a game) changes the HTPCs output resolution.

At some point I also thought that this was a resolution issue, but it doesn't seem the case as the TV changes it in the middle of the video playback. In fact I set J River to custom change resolution of a movie file depending on its parameters, and it results in 0.5 seconds delay in playback. So the HTPC indeed changes the resolution, and my TV blink is definitely something else.

Is the resolution on the computer the same as on the HDTV? You said you are using HDMI, so I am guessing you have HDMI out on your computer and not 720p. Hopefully the HDTV is also 1080p.

I am guessing it is the software you are using.

Maybe you have a Cache for streaming and it is clearing the cache. I use IE for streaming on my computer and watch Internet video sites and I set up my browser settings to delete the cache every time I close it.

I had this problem and tried a million things. Come to find out the flashes were being caused by my Wii.

WII video was hooked into the TV as component, audio was hook into my receiver.
HTPC was hooked into the receiver via HDMI.

If I turn off the Wii, the problem doesn't exist.

Crazy problem, and I never found a real resolution, but it's easy enough to turn off the Wii when it's not in use.
