I'm having this problem almost every day, I would have to take my 1080p tv and bring it down to 720p and back up to 1080p for it to fix. Why is this happening almost everytime I use my PC? I am using NVIDIA Control Panel to adjust the resolution but it seems to scale itself back after awhile. I am using an HDMI to HDMI cable so whay is the problem? Any suggestions?

Two things to check.
First check that you don't have any aspect ratio or overscan settings on your TV that you can adjust. Make sure you don't have it set to zoom or anything such as that. If I set my TV to zoom, then I will get the result you have.

Second in the Nvidia control panel click on "adjust desktop size and position" and then click the size tab. Click the check box to enable desktop resizing then click the resize button. You can adjust for overscan that way.

I had my TV on wide screen mode, I'm not sure if that was the problem, even though It makes no difference from normal mode when I look at it. So far nothings happening but usually it'll over scan the next day for some reason. I have previously used the resize feature on NVIDIA control panel, and it will revert back to overscanning the tv, so either I'll wait and see if it works now or I'll return it to Best Buy and get another brand.

You'll usually find the TV's overscan-free mode in the "aspect" or "aspect ratio" part of the tv settings. Look for a mode called "full" or "just".

Mine has a few oddly worded settings for aspect ratio, i think its full, zoom, and just or something wierd like that. Look for that. If i have zoom on it looks exactly like your pics.

Ok, it definitely wasn't showing before but now a setting called "overscan" is showing but is greyed out and shows off on certain display modes (on Game mode, and User mode), I turned it off for ever display mode. I hope this works

How well does the TV work as a Monitor?

What size is the TV?

----

I've been using tvs as monitors for a few years now and am highly satisfied. Currently I'm using a 4k oled, but I'm generally only running it at 1080P. One way or another that's going to change after Christmas when I get a receiver that's capable of passing through 4k@60hz. In any case, it has resulted in me completely relocating my PC gaming into the living room.

It's a 32" Sharp TV (LC-32LB480U), and now that the scaling is fixed, it is a great TV (PC monitor). I my own opinion It isn't as good as the Vizio E32-D1 that Target sent me (which was the wrong tv, but still should have kept it)

I can't speak for the OP but I use a 55" 4K HDR tv as a monitor now and it's fantastic. I only sit about 5.5 feet from the screen though.
I was going to get a 4K tv but I'm not really a fan of 4K gaming (my PC can handle 4K gaming with little to no problem). That's really all I do on my pc is Netflix, Game, and develop android + windows apps.

Edited: I'm new to Anandtech, why is there a "V" and "OP" next to my username?

No idea on the last part I thought a bug maybe in Tapatalk as you are not the OP of this thread.

I don't necessarily game at 4K but after watching content in hdr I started getting more gear that can do hdr like a UHD blu-ray player and soon a PS4 pro. It's just that big of a leap for me. I got my current tv to replace a 1080p set once I saw some hdr videos. I was sold

I just started using a TV as monitor but so far is nice. I do have a slight flicker problem when outputting 444 chroma @ 60hz on my gtx 1070 though.

I output rgb from my pc. I remember reading somewhere that games are made for rgb unlike movies which are ycbcr encoded. I have also noticed fewer issues this way overall. I never got flickering but what I did see is some artifacting on certain things. Very minor but noticeable.

So you are pushing 4k RGB @ 60hz? I'll have to try that then.

I use 3 32" Samsungs as monitors, and they look fantastic. I used to have a LG 29" super wide, and I much prefer these over it.
