TV Antenna

Hello folks,

My cable has been out two weeks and who knows when Adelphia will get around to fixing it. Does anyone have any recommendations on an outdoor Antenna? I have been looking at the Terk TV-55. Supposedly does HDTV.

Thanks, Bill

any antenna can pick up hdtv signals, you just need to have the hdtv receiver to decode the signal. I've heard the zenith silver sensor is a nice antenna.

So if your cable goes out for two weeks, does that mean you only pay for half a month?

I bought it and tried it. Its not like I live in the sticks either. I have a fairly direct line of sight to the transmitters and it still sucked. I tried it mounted in the attic.

You must be kidding.....

Have you ever tried logic with a Utility company?

The conversation goes something like this:

Cable Company: XYZ Cable, how can we help you?
Me: My cable has been out for two weeks. I don't think I should be charged for a full month.

Cable Company: I am sorry we do not understand your request.
Me: I don't think I should be charged for service I do not use

Cable Company: I am sorry we do not understand your request.
Me: Am I talking to one of those articficial intelligence devices?

Cable Company: I am sorry we do not understand your request.
Me: Hello

Cable Company: I am sorry we do not understand your request.. I am sorry we do not understand your request. I am sorry we do not understand your request.I am sorry we do not understand your request.

From the folks that I have talked to, installing the TV-55 is not a good idea.

You are probably right, I have just not pushed it. I know how to get to any Utility company.... 3 simple letters:

PSC ! (Public Service Commission)

You mean inside? The whole point was I didn't want something outside. Oh well. It was gonna be for the bedroom tvs anyway. Long live DirecTV!

Just buy a cheap amplified rabit-ears set from walmart or something. Otherwise nothing between that and a huge roof-mount-outdoor job is really going to make all that much difference. At least according to what I've read in the past. The TERK ones that mount on the satelites outside, are supposedly OK but nothing fantastic. If anything they are better because they are outside and not blocked by your house as much. The design, etc, is more of a gimic when it comes to signal strength.

Of course, the amplifiers may be nicer from one to the next as well, but, buy a cheap set of rabit ears (amplification optional) and see what you can get, you may be surprised.

Through conversations with my cable company, I've learned that the smallest outage they're willing to provide discounts for is 4 hours. I've had them take off amounts somewhere under $2 (and that was when it was just the email servers that were down 🙂 )

I am going to try installing the antenna on the South side of my house under the eves trough of the house which is what Terk recommended. Like I said, right now the antenna is sitting on my couch pointing out the window and it does ok. Maybe with some more heigth and pointing South vs. East (direction is pointed now), the recpetion will be even better.

I bought the TV-55 for $50 at Best Buy. It is normally $100 so as long as I get a few channels, I am happy.

I'm just happy I got CC to take mine back after I had it for 2.5 months (most of it spent sitting in the garage). I used that money for DirecTIVO😀
