TV and VCR Rant

I dont know about you guys, but i think most tv's are desighned by freaking idiots.

Ya know where you hook up the cable line to the tv? Why is it they feel they must ALWAYS inset it in?

know what I mean? the AV ins/outs in the back will all be nice and on a flat surface, but then you get to the cable input and they put it in some stupid hole that makes it hard as crap to screw the cable on.

I think EVERY tv I have does this. (all diff brands) it makes me soooooooo mad, casue it seems I'm always in a hury when i'm trying to mess with it.

I know exactly what you mean. Luckily, I don't plug coax into my TV anymore. 😀

Umm...

Because RCA plugs are a terrible interface for noise and impedance. With bandwidth in the Mhz and 10s of Mhz a RCA connector ain't gonna cut it.

Hence coaxial F type connectors. BNCs are better and a little easier - you'll find these on higher bandwidth interfaces.

The point is you can't get your fingers (easilly) into the spot that the f-connector is recessed into on many sets. Honestly, my TV's don't have that problem, but, more than a few VCR's I've delt with have that problem.

Anyway, I've always thought the screw cables worked better then the ones that just slide over the threads...

Why oh wyh didnt they just make it like the old coaxial network cables, ya know it slides over and then you twist and lock it in.......

also known as a BNC connector. 🙂

Because of cost is why f connectors were chosen.

interesting thread...but for reference, whats a VCR? 😛

seriously, do people still own theirs? in these days of dvd player's and tivo's, im kinda curious if people still have VCR's. ill be even more impressed if someone has and still uses a betamax (im waiting for some youngn's to chime in with "whats a beta max?")

i have a beta max. dont use it but it still works. and i still have a VCR and i use that. mostlys o i can watch TV in through my receiver in surround sound. my parrents dont own a DVD player and still rent VHS. my dvd player is my PS2. i will never own a TIVO becasuse they are too expensive and pointless. i watch 3 hours of TV a day and that consists of cartoons from 11-2pm on cartoon network

EDIT: I agree the way teh connectors on VCRs is sucks. itst he same way on most DVD players als. they are set in and hard to get at

There is a significant portion of the population that just doesn't give a sh!t about new formats.

Take my parents for example. They have a 19" TV that's a decade old. They have a VCR that is probably in that age range too.

They use both so infrequently that upgrading is pointless. They will never have a DVD player unless I buy one for them. If VHS becomes completely obsolete they simply won't watch movies.
