TV Ads for Game Design "Colleges"

I've been seeing a lot of commercials recently for "colleges" like Devry and Collins that say stuff like "I can't believe we actually get paid to do this!!!" and "my mom said I would never get anywhere with these games!!!".

For some reason these annoy me quite a bit, even though I am somewhat interested in a career in game design. Anyone else feel the same way?

Like little dumb gullible lambs to the slaughter....

They annoy me too and I always wonder what the stats of the alumni being successful are.

i think they're funny because the guys are playing the games and building them at the same time. someone should sue for false advertising or bait and switch, lol

They are insanely stupid and really is false advertising...since it couldn't be any farther from the truth. I doubt anyone or a very select few ever get a job from that school.

The only good thing about this is that only stupid people would actually believe and follow through with this program...so no one with actual intelligence will waste their money.

The worst are the new ones where they try to actually sound like they're doing somethign technical and one guy goes, let's remember to reuse that sound from the last level.

And they're all dressed and made up like guys from the early 80's with the long hair combed back in wings with polo shirts.

I can only guess they're trying to come off so terrible for some reason because they've been running these things for years.

being a grad of UAT, i can not give you much insight on my success... but i can give you a bleak look into it, since im not working in the gaming field or in digital animation like i originally went to school for. Im an industrial programmer and scada designer, not really the same field but i do use some of the art side of my degree, along with a ton of the programming part.

i dont know how many times we had recruiters come in and talk to us, and always saw some of them outside smoking. they didnt have a very good opinion of the collins college, but i didnt have a good one either. the collins people were learning crap compared to the rest of the world, and giving out "certifications" for programs that didnt have any certification attached to them. i had a friend going there while i went thru UATs program, we compared notes all the time. his whole program was 14 months long after he got his graphic design "degree", and the only program they taught was maya. now they at least have strived to expand on that a bit, but they still approach it as a graphic design school from what i can tell.

the commercials annoy the hell out of me too. they are made to attract those slackers that cant get jobs due to playing video games all day, and they are mindfucked into believing they can make 85k right out of school. they pay their tuition via student loans and end up in debt with a skillset they dont know how to market or benefit from usually. or they just drop out.

id like to think im successful, im a certified wonderware developer as well as skilled in rockwell software platform. I can write ladder logic, structured text and function block code as well as build a custom radio system to link them all together.

I hate those graphic design or art school type commercials where they show some "alternative" looking person with pink, spikey hair talking about how cool the program is.

I would think that game developers would rather have math and physics guys with a bit of CS, then CS guys with a bit of math and physics.
