Turtle Ice Wax...good?

I have never waxed a car.

The number one priority here is simplicity, number two is price.

Would Turtle Ice Wax be appropriate then? I do not have, and do not intend to buy a buffer or anything like that...

I was very disappointed with the stuff, I tend to use a carnauba liquid paste wax.

I chuckled when I saw their "liquid clay bar."

Yeah? That bad?

What's the difference between paste and liquid in terms of results and difficulty applying?

Liquid wax is pretty much just as effective as the paste, just more convenient.

I recommend S100(same as P21S) and Natty's Blue from Poorboy's.

You can find S100 at a Harley Davidson dealer or online of course, P21S is pretty easy to come by too.

Are you just looking for a layer of protection or getting a shine from your paint? If you just want to slap on a coat of wax you should probably go with a synthetic since they tend to last longer. A lot of people like Meguiars NXT Tech Wax, easy to apply easy to buff off (10 dollars a bottle and it comes with a cheap foam applicator)

A little more pricey but does more is Klasse All In One 16.9oz bottle is about 17 dollars + S&H

Paste and liquid are pretty similar in terms of application, go with a foam applicator pad and put multiple thin layers.

well, i tried the turtle ice wax after using the liquid clay bar to wash my car. imo, I thought it did a good job. I'm not a car buff or anything like so i haven't used the real stuff but turtle ice was pretty easy to use, just apply it generously and then buff it with a clean cloth and it looks pretty good to me.

The Ice is not good. It's not easy to get off of the car and it doesn't shine as well as other synthetics will.

I also suggest the Meguiars NXT.

Well, its not really wax. Its more like an oil.

It has it's uses. It goes well on top of a *dry* layer of good wax to add a little bit of shine when the original shine begins to wear. You can do it in bright sunlight and it dries pretty quickly, so its a good quick fix.

The thing its REALLY good for is the black trim around your car, headlights and sunroof...works better than "back to black" "PlastX" or anything else I've tried for those areas.

But it's got its problems. First thing is not to put it on top of a fresh layer of wax...it'll mix with the wax and make a mess.

You also have to take it off at *just* the right time. Too early, you'll smear the oil around, too late, and it'll require serious muscle to get it buffed and smooth.

Also, you have to put a THIN layer, and get ALL of the excess off. Otherwise, when it rains, it'll run on your windshield and make your wipers much less effective.

I've never used the claybar, but the ICE quick detailer also works pretty well.

Just don't expect it to replace a good polish or wax. They market it that way, but thats really not where it excels. If anything, get it just for the trim/lights.

It sucks, it is way too runny. If you want a decent wax just go with Meguiar's Color X or any of their other waxes. They are easy to apply and the best shine you are going to get with a non machined application/buffing on the consumer market.

Also see my sig for help on waxing/polishing and feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Hell, I'll give you my cell number and you can call me while you are at the store.

It does not. All they did was take a cleaner wax and say it was a liquid clay bar. A clay bar actually pulls the particles from the paint, a liquid with no matter how much buffing etc cannot do this. All a cleaner wax does is remove old wax or buildup on the paint's surface, not in it like a clay bar does, which is the most important to prevent oxidation and rust.
