does this card support the 5.1 speaker configuration?

Yes, but it creates the midrange channel virtually. Sometimes information intended for other channels slips into the midrange. The Phillips AE is the only true 5.1 solution. I don't think you will be dissapointed with the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, however.
