Turtle Beach Montego II problems in Win98

I am having a problem with a turtle beach sound card. My friend's computer crashed and when he rebooted, his sound wasnt working. There are no conflicts or anything in the device manager but when I go to play a file(movie or otherwise) it says there is no sound device. So I uninstalled the multifunction sound device from the device manager, rebooted and everything installed, but I had the same error. Any ideas?
thanks,

Try a different slot. I know you said there are no conflicts, but trust me. I was just helping someone with an almost identical problem and the cure was just to change slots.
