Turntable

Anyone know where I can find a solid, reliable and good sounding turntable? Doesn't have to be new or good looking. Thanks.

eBay would not be a bad place to look.

Short of there, pawn shops, and the like.

If you want to spend money, I know Circuit City still carries at least one model, a Sony. Don't have a price for you, but I know I pulled a couple of the truck and put them on shelves, and we still had a display model.

i got a technic sl350 out of a dumpster the other day. a $13 belt and it was good as new. still has a good cartridge on it too.
i'd go pawn shop but it's a crap shoot as to wether you'll find one.

Circuit City and Best Buy used to keep one or two models around.
Crutchfield. Maybe some local audiophile stores. Audiophiles believe vinyl sounds better.
Try yellow pages.
(Audio Equipment, not Audiophiles.)

I think Technics 1210 are still top quality, they were when I was a little younger, and were for as long as I can remember.

Thanks for the replies. I am probably going to get one online but Froogle isn't doing me any favors. Just as a side question, are all good turntables like 500 dollars? I was trying to find one for less than that. Direct Drive too, preferably.

ebay... yardsales... you're gonna have to go dumpster hunting on this one.
even crutchfield has them for around $100.

NOOOOOO! Belt drive is much better. Less rumbling.

Well I say direct drive because I would like the belt to not have to be replaced in the next five years, but I guess that's a small thing. Thanks.

My late 1970's Sony receiver with a DUAL turntable plays 78's.

Find a quality old turntable. It'll be better than most new ones.

So there are no "newer" 78 players of high quality?
Been meaning to drag out my 1000+ Bing collection of 78's and put them into Mp3 form

Get techniqes(sp). My mom bought this stereo back in the day (like 17 years ago and its still the same thing we use now (minus amp). Turntable still works like a charm.
