Is there anyway I can put a paper through turnitin.com to check for plagiarism without it adding the paper to the database. I want to check my rough draft for my research paper but if i submit it, then submit my final draft it will come up as almost 100% plagiarized right?

No, you can't. That would defeat the purpose of catching cheaters by telling them they're cheating before they turn it in.

confused... isn't it your paper? If you didn't copy stuff verbatim from references, you should be OK, right?

his question is, what if he checks it now and then his professor/teacher checks his paper against the website. would it then come out as plagiarized because the paper has been submitted once.

If he gets called in for suspected plagiarism and he didn't do it, then can't he prove it with knowledge? :)

Yes you certainly can plagiarize yourself. Dictionary.com says: "Smith v. Little, Brown & Co., 265 Federal Reporter Supp. 451 (1965)> intransitive verb : to present as new and original an idea or work derived from an existing source". Examples include:
1) Selling a book to one publisher, then selling the same material to another publisher.
2) Writing one essay for one class and then resubmitting the essay for another class.

Supercharged: If you wrote it yourself, why would you be worried?

Another question when citing something within the paper you just put the author's name (Last, First) or something right? What else do I need to put.

edit: I can't remember the name of the stupid standard or else I would google it.

There are a dozen or so different styles. One of the more common ones is the Chicago Manual of Style. Honestly you can use any style you wish as long as your teacher/professor allows it. Just be consistant and provide sufficient info for the reader to find the source.

I've done MLA format and generic footnoting. And I've never used said website.

It's a bit like asking if you can murder somebody, right? :p

BTW mwtgg, why don't you put in the bit about rice getting stuck in the intestine? Let me dig it up.

i could be wrong about it being the cheapest, could be that it is easy to grow and is abundant.
could be that rice is good for asian but we americans will never eat rice no matter what due to the hardness of the substance. because it so filling that your digestive system is stuck like glue so it does have its drawback. the trick is to only eat a little or dont eat at all. on the other hand, noodles are ok its does not get stuck in your intestine like rice.

When I read that, I honestly have no idea how I'm supposed to feel.

it is not a wise thing to do, nor is it a solution. Not only do you harm yourself permanently, you hurt others as well emotionally who may have cared for you but never told you directly...I am alive today still because have a strong will to live and not be taken down with any criticism
