Turnitin.com question

For one of my classes I have to do a 12 page paper on VoIP and about 3 years ago I did a 4 page paper on VoIP for a different class. I don't think I submitted the old one to turnitin but I'm not completely sure. The sylabus shows it as being required but it didn't show up in my account history and the teacher wasn't one that follows the syllabus very closely.

I can't really plagiarize myself, but if I did submit the paper before and Turnitin recognizes the new one is similar will it show me as the the author of the old one or just show the other paper sans name? I'm obviously going to have to have a lot more content to this one but there's only so many ways I can think of to say some of this stuff.

Your professor may not want you to take work from an old paper that you've written, especially if you picked the topic yourself. Get his permission before doing so.

What you are doing is called academic dishonesty, and yes resubmitting your own work twice is considered self plagerism. You won't get in nearly the amount of trouble if caught. Self Plagerism usually results in a zero on the paper where I go. Straight up plagarism that is blatant will get you kicked out of school permanently with a big shiny mark on your transcript.

Even if you didnt submit it to TurnItIn there is still a good chance TurnItIn has it in their databases.

Edit: I see you that are adding to it. Id get your professors permission. If you add a substaintial amount say 70% new stuff, you should be fine, Id just get your professors permission instead of risking it.
 
send them a nice letter threatening to sue them for using your works without permission. Just because it has to get checked for an assignment doesn't mean they can have your work forever. Stuff is rarely licensed indefinitely. If they say they have full rights, sue the school for not properly informing of the TOS involved with it.
