Turning your computer off when not in use & @ night...

Who here turns their computer off when not in use?

I've read from multiple articles and many videos ( linus being the most credible ) recommending and saying its ok to turn your computer off when not in use.
Reduces heat and potential wear and tear. The other thought is though everytime you turn your computer on your wearing on the parts as well.

Personally I turn mine off everytime I walk away. It literaly take 4 sec. to shutdown and 6 sec. to turn on.

I not only turn the pc off I also have a wall plug with a switch so I kill the power on everything, monitors, speakers, router, what have you.

It depends on how often you use it. If you use the computer several times per day, turning it off and on that frequently can cause some damage to the circuits that repeatedly expand and contract when warming up and cooling down. If you only use it occasionally, then turning it off is a reasonable option.

This! My desktop is accessed several times a day and stays ON between about 0530 and 1630. My laptop is only turned on for specific purposes, and for a short time. So, it is mostly OFF.

I turn mine off if I'm going to work for 8 hours, going away for several hours, or going to sleep at night. Otherwise mine stays on, if I walk away from it for a little bit (hour or 2) I'll just turn the monitor off. Don't use Windows Power Options, they've been buggy as hell for me in the past, I keep mine set to Always On and just use the power button on the monitor if I need to. The only 2 times I ever tried to leave my computer on 24/7 it lasted 3 days (or thereabouts) before issues developed which caused major problems. I don't do that anymore.

Same as a few others, I turn it off at night and during work. If I'm at home all day and using intermittently it just stays on.

always on during the day when I'm home, since I rarely stay away from it for long, in which case I'd turn it off.

When going out or going to sleep I turn it off, and also kill the power of the whole battlestation with a switch.

The monitor goes to sleep after some minutes and the PC goes to standby after 30 minutes in case I forget to turn it off when going out.

When I'm home it's on doing folding at home when I'm not on the web, when I leave I usually turn the computer off then shut off the UPS that the whole system is plugged in to.

Mine pretty much stays on 24/7. It's in use off and on the entire day and night, and I have all my backup images running from 2400-0600.

We only power up the HTPC when we use it.

My gaming PC is upstairs... and it's hotter upstairs... so shut it down when I know it's not going to be used for a while. It's only a 10-second startup, anyway...
