Turning White Beans Blue...

Okay....I need to turn some kidney beans blue (about half a bag) for a project I'm doing, and I have been trying to figure out the best way to go about doing this. At first i was going to put them in some blue food coloring, but that'll probably make them expand. Now, I'm thinking spraypaint, but I was wondering if there's a more efficient way to do this?

*insert required joke involving "blue balls"*

...or you could try just dipping them in food coloring, and not keeping them down. A jar of fountain pen ink and paint them with a brush would do the trick quickly and cheaply.

I'd like to know where you got white kidney beans. The only ones I've ever seen are dark red.

And you're right, if you were to try a solution of food coloring, the beans would expand. Perhaps regular paint? Just drop some beans in a jar, drop in some paint, cover, and shake vigorously. <shrug> It might work, but the beans would have to dry. Maybe drop a bag of beans into a gallon of paint and have your friendly neighborhood hardware store run it in their paint-mixing machine for a few minutes.

"excuse me, could you do me a favor and shake my blue beans for me?"

😀

I'm pretty sure i saw them in a store around here, but if not I'll just use whatever white beans they have. How long do you think it would take them to dry?
