Turning off Simple File sharing in Windows XP Home Edition

When i reinstalled windows XP home edition, I made the mistake of not removing protections from my old "documents and settings" folder. As such, many files have become locked, and I'm unable to view them.

One tip I've seen universally is to turn off simple file sharing (this was posted on several forums, and a video of it is on microsoft's webpage here )

Whenever I try to follow that procedure of My Computer/tools/folder options/view , however, the last box I'm able to view and check is "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items". THe box that I'm looking for should come directly after that, but no dice!

I've also tried changing this setting whilst in safe mode, but that hasn't worked, either. Does anyone know of a way to retrieve these files using that method, or another method which can retrieve files whose access is denied?

You are correct. Have to be in safe mode on home to get to the security tab...
