Turned my Athlon 2500+ into an Athlon Mobile 2500+

That's right...I cut all the bridges on my CPU to unclock multipliers 6-24x - however I run an nForce2 board as my main rig so I can't use that chip any longer...fortunately I just switched out the chip with my brother's 2500+ (he runs a VIA KT600 board)...he doesn't overclock so I can't see how far the chip will go...bummer but oh well...no harm no foul...here is what the CPU comes up as now...

2500+ Mobile

Why doesn't the "mobile" 2500+ work in your nForce2 board? Which model is it?

And for screen shots, try Alt + Print Scrn. It'll give you the active window instead of the whole desktop.

I don't know why it doesn't work...it was an Athlon XP 2500+ purchased in April 2001...whatever week that is...

The article I read stated that by cutting all the bridges it will make the chip useless in an nForce board...I tried it anyway just for sh!ts and giggles...but I really have no idea why it doesn't work...

That's not really a mobile 2500+ it's just a multiplier unlocked barton.

Yeah I realize...but it comes up as an Athlon XP-M in CPU-Z...pretty cool either way...

I just did the wire trick on a tbred 2700+ and it works fine in the Shuttle AN35N, multis down to 8 now. Course, I never tried it without the wire so it might have been that way from the start...

I don't get it... you said it doesn't work, then you posted a screenshot of it working... was that screenshot taken using the KT600?

I'm still confused as to why you think a Mobile Athlon XP won't work in an nForce2 motherboard... since TONS of us are doing just that...

It was using the KT600...and I'm not saying a Mobile Athlon XP won't work in an nForce board...I am saying if you cut all the bridges on a regular Athlon XP Barton chip to unlock all the mulitipliers this is what occurs...

Probably because the rest of the bridges aren't the same... so you confuse the shyt out of it 😀
