Honest to God, my wife must come home from a day of work, or shopping, and get miffed if she finds a light not burning. Hell, a couple weeks ago, she even left the coffee warmer on with a quarter of a pot. Oh yeah, that smelled up the house real good.

HTF do people get into these habits? Having your dad harp at you every day of your young life isn't enough, your husband has to take over after that, eh? GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! :|

Agreed. My apartmentmate always leaves the kitchen light on. It drives me nuts. I turn it off and then he comes back out to get something and leaves it on again! We have those energy saving bulbs in everything but it still drives me nuts.

I am constantly turning lights off that my roommate turns on without discretion. My vigilence has saved us $20 on our last elec. bill though.

...10 "standard" 100 watt 120 volt bulbs with a rated lifetime of 750 hours. Such bulbs typically cost around 75 cents in the U.S. The electricity used by all ten of these bulbs is 1 kilowatt, which would typically cost about 9 cents per hour (approximate U.S. average). Over 750 hours, this would cost (on an average) $67.50 for the electricity plus $7.50 for 10 bulbs, or $75. - Text

HTF do people make it to the year 2004 without a coffee maker that turns itself off after a couple of hours.
I thought all coffee makers glued together in about the last 10 years did that.

Sounds like passive agressive behavior. She's doing it for the negative attention. Try not saying anything for a month and see what happens.

The space shuttle landed in our yard once, turns out they thought this was Kennedy Space Center.
The electric company had to come install a water jacket on our meter because it kept melting. They set some steel in concrete to anchor the meter, too. It kept twisting off the wall and flopping around in the yard.
I used to fight it, now I just pay the bill. It was get used to it or crack. Therapy's way more expensive than the electric bill anyways.

It's a Bunn. They must not have figured out how to build a proper coffee maker yet.

Fvck, I gave up long ago. Now I give the job to my boys, to turn off all the lights she leaves on. The two of them can hardly keep up with her!

do lights really contribute to the electricity bill that much? especially compared to people leaving their computers on 24/7.

not that it matters much in my apartment. we don't use any of the overhead lights... the kitchen is lit by a 50-watt bulb inside a lamp on the kitchen table, and the living room and computer rooms are usually kept dark at night, even when we're in them.

the only lights in my bedroom are candles :)

most nights, if i got out or have somethign to do and i come home after dark...the house is lit up like were having a party....and the wifes in the bedroom with a lamp on reading.

4 in the kitchen...3 in the dining room....3 in the living room...1 in the hallway...3 in my room

i think maybe i should just give her some money and a lighter to save time.

This is why I let a stupid half government controlled management company pay to run my apartment full of servers, chilled booze and ice cream. I have a pair of 20 amp circuts running at 75% load almost constantly. They actually tried to get me thrown out because I was a "fire hazard."

LOL man did I kick their ass all over that meeting with Ohm's law....

I have a $100 Krups, and it has a clock timer so I don't even have to push the dang button in the morning.

As a side, what about cell phone chargers? My wife leaves them plugged in all the time even after she's done charging. I'm always yanking them off the outlet -- am I conserving a decent amount of electricity, or does that make me anal?? :D
