Turn on Wireless -- Greyed out on my vista laptop

I booted up my ASUS laptop today, and noticed that the Turn On Wireless option is greyed out, not allowing me to turn the wireless on. Any ideas why this would happen or how to fix it? All started when I plugged a network cable into my laptop and turned off the wireless. I reinstalled Intel 3945abg drivers, didnt fix the issue.

I'm assuming the adapter shows as functioning under device manager? Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling it (as opposed to just the drivers)?

I leave my wireless on when plugged into the LAN cable at home - no problem. My wireless goes on/off via a button on the top keyboard margin. Nothing to gray out.
