If I turn it off by checking the box in device manager, to I get higher performance on my laptop?

PS: I am not afraid of data loss due to a sudden power outage since I am connected to a power source 24/7

I would leave it on, the only benefit of having it off is if there is a sudden power failure, and even then its only going to help with if the drive is in the middle of writing something to the platter, you wont loose that info

Turning it off will kill performance and you're talking about a laptop which automatically has a UPS built in.
