Turn off alerts for JUST birthdays?

In Lion iCal (not on iCloud), is there any way to turn off the alerts, or not have them set in the first place, for birthdays ONLY (not all alerts).

I want the birthdays on the calendar, I just don't want any birthday alerts.

I think the last OSX update must have messed this up because this was not a problem until just a day or so ago.
