Turn Laptop Monitor Off

I would like a piece of software that would make my laptop monitor work like a desktop monitor. I want to be able to power it off and on with a key combination of some sort. I don't want the screen to power on because the mouse moved or because a key is pushed. I want it to stay completely off. This helps when you are just using your PC for music so you don't need the screen to power on when you change the song and other stuff. If anyone knows of a program like this that would be EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks.

You can probably just lower the brightness all the way.

sometimes a cheat works.
i used an old laptop as a media server once.
the lcd backlight was triggered by the latch apparently, if you jam something into the latch hole it turns the lcd off..at least on my old vaio.

I found out that if I set the laptop to Do Nothing when it closes lid and then I close the lid it actually turns off the monnitor screen. I dunno why they wouldn't just say turn off screen when close lid instead of do nothing since Do Nothing is extremely misleading.

There are a number of down loadable utilities available that do what you want (eg, http://www.fileheap.com/softwa...witch_off_monitor.html ). I didnt see a totally free one yet, but these available ones are very inexpensive (eg, $5 and under) plus allow you to try the software before purchase.
