Turn external hdd off?

Should I turn the switch off when I am done using it? Don't plan on using it everyday, just backing up my photos and videos from time to time.

Sure. Best thing to do is to disable write caching for the external, so that you can turn it off and not have to worry about something being in the buffer before doing so. Check the settings for the device under device manager, and it's in there.

Okay, thank you. It (disable write caching) was checked by default to be off...although I do have a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in my system tray.
