Turn a wireless router to a signal booster?

I have 2 802.11g routers and need to boost the signal on our main one, an SMC router, to reach our 2nd floor. Is there a way to use my spare router as a booster without running 20-30 feet of ethernet cable?

In general the answer is No.

However depending on the envioroment there are few ?tricks? that can be tried.

1. If one of the Routers has removable Antenna you can install it next to the main Router and put a make shift directional Antenna pointing to the second floor.

2. Might be that few feet of cable and poisoning the second Router in a better transmission spot might help.

In any case if you want to try you have to configure the second Router as an Access Point: Using a Wireless Cable/DSL Router as a Switch with an Access Point
