I heard that the US is going to ask for a second resolution for war. If they get it Turkey will let them in. We really need all the help we can get in order to minimize causalties.

Actually I think we already prepared a plan B incase Turkey did not go along.

They did prepare a plan that didn't involve Turkey but it involves a lot of air lifts and the parachute guys (I can't remember what they are called). This is a bad way to come in becuase if they get dropped in the wrong spot then they are sitting ducks. I would rather them come in with tanks on the ground and rolling through everything instead of being dropped from above.

What? No "Turkeys are wussies" and "we will eat them on thanksgiving" threads?

Looks like it's going to be Doubya all alone against the world ....

Once the bombing commences France will come in line, provided the war is expiditious. They don't want to miss out on the oil, which I think is their true motivation in their current rhetoric. Germany will be alone.

My girfriend is persian, and I meet many people from the middle east, all of whom agree that war is imminent and prudent. Let's just get it over with...

Turkey has no real issues with the US attacking Iraq; their interest lies in the postwar disposition of the Kurds, as they're a thorn in the side of the Turkish administration. On one hand, they're trying to extort the US for all they can get, and on the other, they're playing for influence in Northern Iraq. At least they're up front about their self-interest, as opposed to France's hiding theirs behind moral indignation. Bleh.

Turkey has recieved an economical catastrophy in 1991 from the First Gulf War.

We have lost tourism, trade with Iraq, had to accodomate Half a Million Kurdish Refugees, foreign investment was repelled ...

This time it is even worse, we are asked to aid US by moving our troops in to N.Iraq ... Turkey will only move trrops if Iraq is attacked.

So what is in this for Turkey

1) Saddam is no threat for Turkey
2) Another war, another loss of 30 - 50 Billion dollars, and we are already broke with total debt of 150 Billion dollars and only 25 Billion dollar / year exports

My goverment HAS a point ...

Without Turkey there is no way to move heavy armored or mechanized forces down from the south. We would have to rely on airborne forces directly into northern Iraq which makes them far less of a threat. The two front war option is essentially negated.

I don't think so. The USA -- GB axis is losing momentum. They better get it going.
Tony Blair and Jack Straw are talking also about a second resolution. That's a different position then a week ago

The support of the public opinion in GB for a war against Iraq is melting away faster then the French surrendering ;) (no majority in GB anymore without a second resolution).
The approval rate of Tony Blair has hit an all time low in GB
Turkey is denying the US the deployment of an offensive force. I guess the cheque was not big enough. They are also seeking membership of the EU so they don't want to offend the more moderate European countries.
The common declaration of the EU (including GB, France, Germany) was far more moderate if you compare it with the declarations of GB a week ago.

it's the US that is getting more isolated by the week. They better get the tanks rolling

Turkey is essential in the war, and to me there's no doubt we'll buy their support in the next couple of days. Turkey is a whore (in geopolitical terms), it's only down to the haggling over the price ;) Turkey has a right to say "what's in it for me?", just like everyone else. Once we determine a good amount in "aid" for them and assurances that after the war there will be no independent Kurdish state, they'll be in......

GB has made the commitment, those troops will not be going home.
Turkey is playing the role of the unwilling allie at this point(my guess).
