RONKONKOMA, N.Y. -- A Long Island woman was critically injured after a 20-pound turkey smashed through the windshield of her moving car, police said.
The incident happened at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, when the turkey was tossed out the window of an oncoming car on Portion Road in Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County police said.
A passenger in the woman's car took hold of the steering wheel and guided the car to the side of the road, police said. The woman, who is 44 and lives in Lake Ronkonkoma, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Police said a group of teenagers using a stolen credit card bought the turkey at Waldbaum's supermarket on Portion Road earlier that night.
They were being sought for questioning.
