I'm thinking about buying a more budget end laptop for my brother.

I know that Core 2 Duos are the best processors, but it's above my price range.

Most of the computers I've found at Turion/TurionX2/Sempron/Celeron Duo or Celeron M/P4.

Can anyone give me an overall clue about what's better than what?

Im using turion and was going to get a turion x2 but not a lot of them have 64 bit driver..

my current system is an averatec 4100 series.. recently upgraded from a 1.6 to 2.0 turion..

running windows 2003 64 bit server with 2gb memory and 3 VM (solaris 64bit and 2 windows 32 bit).

X2 are better but cost more.

Like you said, c2d are best but they're very pricy.. I would like to get a c2d myself but can't find drivers for some 64 bit os so I can't use them..

C2D > Turion x2 > Turion > Sempron.

Not sure where the celeron duo or celeron M would fit in..
