I'm recovering a hdd that contains turbo tax files, except I never used them, so where are the files saved and whats the extension ? I google for it but it returns filing extensions not file extensions 🙁 haha

I saw some place it might be .tax files ? lmk, thanks.

They are .tax files. I always save mine directly to my server, but I would imagine they would be normally found under the "\<user>\My Documents" folder somewhere in Windows.

Upon installing Turbo Tax, it will create a directory named Turbo Tax in the My Documents of the User who installed the program. Tax files will have a .tax extension or the user may also have saved them in .pdf format. The pdf format is good for viewing, printing and filing by paper. The .tax format is what is used internally by Turbo Tax to create your tax return. Sometimes, it will be something like: .tax2011 ... etc to identify what year the return is for.

When it comes to Taxes Record...don't keep anything on your PC...

Here's what I did:
@ work we do have have a copy machine/scanner.
I did scan my all tax records at highest .pdf dpi - 600x600...not that big files, saved all on a couple different usb sticks and made a WinRAR password protected file that e-mailed to my own e-mail. Even if the house I live, will burn down, I'll have all my tax records that's in my e-mail.

I did same with all other document copies. No paperwork @ home, just MOST IMPORTANT ORIGINALS...

Everything else is shredded and saved in .PDF on several locations.

If I'll ever do need anything, could print at any Kinko's store....
