I hate misleading information like this... TurboTax has nothing to do with the fraud other than that's the software the holders of the SS#s decided to use. It's no less secure than any other software. Once people have the information needed they can use any service they want to do the same thing.
Seems like you are the one misleading people. I never once said it was TurboTax's fault. As far as I have heard, no one yet knows the source of the data leak that let scammers file through TurboTax.

But some states stopped accepting TurboTax for a while. If you want to file and need your money right away, it was wise to check if your state is accepting the TurboTax filings. This will be clearing up over the next few days/weeks, but even then I bet states will be giving TurboTax returns more scrutiny this year (scrutiny that certainly wouldn't make returns faster). That combined with TurboTax's massive price increase leads to my suggestion to consider filing with a different program this year.

What sucks about turbotax, is the hidden state filing fee they don't show until you're getting ready to file. Saw they had Deluxe for $29.99 through my CU, then they want to charge you another $37 to file state taxes
Do what I do and print and stuff in envelope, affix postage, and drop in mailbox, done. I have never paid Turbotax's state online filing fee, screw that.

Well it wouldn't have helped you, but TT has a promotion right now where you can file state taxes for free if you are using their free federal edition (which allows 1040EZ/1040A) as long as you file by 2/16.
I just called my bank (Chase) and asked them about my tax documents and they told me they are sending them 2/17, I'm SOL on that. :\

Does it show you all your completed state tax forms before you have to pay?
Short answer: yes.

Turbotax, after you finish your federal taxes continues on and prepares a state tax return for you. In my experience, you then get to file your federal return online for free, and they offer to file your state return for a fee. You don't have to file your state return online, you can instead print out the state return for filing and mail it to the appropriate address, which is provided right there when you print the return, the first page being instructions on how to file by mail. I have done this every year.

Of course, you can examine the forms before mailing. I always print out at least one copy of my returns and file for my records. I can print out copies later at will if I care to, because the returns are saved on my hard drives in both PDF file format and in Turbotax's own file type. I have returns saved going back at least to 2008. I have paper returns in my file cabinet going back further than that.

So, Tax Act, H&R Block, they have online filing systems? How much do they cost? Do they include provisions for dealing with stock investing (buy/sell stocks)? Can they import data supplied by my brokerage? I really need that because that data is very complicated, last couple of years I did a direct import of data from my brokerage into my Turbotax return, generated from CD, not the online version. This year, though, since I can't import any info from previous Turbotax returns (I haven't found a way to do that) into my online version, I want to see about using a different tax software. Looks like I'd pay a minimum of $41 using Turbotax online, and that's with me paper-filing my state return.
