I think it's $25 to file online with Turbotax. I can't offer anything other than that.

What are you looking to buy? Premier, Deluxe, etc? There really is no difference between the two other than when you use the Online Premier you get to e-file for free, where with the software you still have to pay to e-file.

Give me a few more specifics and I'll answer more accurately considering I'm sitting in Intuit's Omaha office right now surrounded by seasonal tax and tech agents.

supposedly the same capabilities.

The Online version will continue to prompt you for upgrades.

Also, playing what if is a pain. Data must continually get re-entered if it was deleted.

Difficult to jump to a given section.

You are also trusting them to protect/backup your data.
After Aug, you can not longer get to your previous years data.

Not sure of the CD version, but once you start using online version, you can pull last years data in (names, SS #'s, previous refund amounts, etc) for a speedy return. Took me 15 minutes to complete the whole thing this year including following up to check.

Engineer is correct, to a degree. If you used TurboTax Online last year, using it again this year will automatically import last years AGI and personal information, saving you quite a bit of time and effort. If you used the software version last year and still have your .tax file, TurboTax Online will also import that file directly into the online version, saving you time and effort once again.

The software will only import the previous year software .tax file.

Honestly, I find the Online to be the easiest to use - and you can use it for free. You only have to pay at the end when you choose how to file, so just go to http://www.turbotax.com, click on Deluxe or Premier (the prices were recently reduced) and give it a whirl. At the end it's not like you've paid for anything, so if it was a satisfying experience for you, just pay and move on.

If not, use something else. You don't have anything to lose from trying something for free.

Did it online last year, doing it this year again. Easy to use and I can't tell any differences from the software versions from previous years. Link to it from Fidelity (and probably countless other places) and get 50% off.

I found the online version to be no different from the TT software that I purchased last year. And it works on linux, as it is web based.

PC Versions will suckin last years tx files from even the competition.

The Online versions will NOT allow you to upload last years data and/or use data from somewhere else.

You are wrong. TurboTax Online will import last years .tax files just fine. It's one of the first screens, you don't even have to buy the software to get to it. Go to http://www.turbotax.com, click on Premier, and follow the prompts.

As for competition, only the software version will do this, correct. But TurboTax Online still imports previous SOFTWARE TurboTax Files.

We tend to do a pretty good job of listening to the customers. It's always been a resource issue before, but now that we've simplified the platforms themselves it's easier to impliment importing from the software to the online product.

One can only hope our next trick will be importing last years H&R Block into the Online. ;)

I've done mine online for the past 5 years. They store a copy of each return in pdf format online for me as well (I keep my own copy too). Makes it way easy once you've done it for a year. Imports all the same W2 info and your personal info etc.
