i dont think its much different then the costco deal that gives you TTdeluxe with state and fed for $35, is it?

edit- nevermind it seems they are including state for free too? whats the catch to this deal?

You can't import files (in other words, you can't import your TT on CD/PC files into TT Online, or at least I didn't get an option to do so).

I don't really see any other catch, other than ending up on their email list for mortgages, insurance and whatever.

I had that option. A few steps in it said,

"Welcome to TurboTax

Thanks for choosing TurboTax Deluxe 2007

Let's work on your 2007 return
Let TurboTax get last year's return from your computer"

Don't have any files to try it out, but it appears like it's an option.

The catch is, I think, you have to pay for each state.

I don't care about state (no state income tax here :)), but...

It appears you have a choice of a free download of the locally running TT but no free e-file, or online TT with free e-file and a way to import last year's return info but no way to transfer the current return.

I don't really want all of my financial info living on one of Intuit's servers - I'm willing to let them do the e-file, but that's it. (OK, if they really want to, they could capture my return info as it goes by, but I'll assume they don't do that...)

If I could get the download for free, do my taxes locally, and then upload the final return for an e-file (and then delete the uploaded return...), I'd have the best of both worlds...

At least this would get me the download for free, which is better than nothing (assuming I can return the TT I bought at Costco a couple of weeks ago...). And it's even legit, since I really am a State Farm customer.

Same here. (And, I'm a State Farm customer as well.)

If you are a State Farm customer, here is the original page: Link
but you have to actually log in to your State Farm online account.

A legit customer must've copied the URL after logging in, and posted it online. Intuit (or State Farm) finally caught on ...
