turbo testing is fun!

was down the thermo labs to day, with my mate from 4th year (university) he's working on something for perkins engines, to do with their turbo

i think they want an anti lag system that can be bolted straight on, and hes experimenting with ways to make the turbos spin faster.

using all the air pressure the 20Kw screw compressors downstairs could muster, we had that thing running over 60,000 rpm. 103dB......it was cool.

one of the best and quietest ideas was covering the compressor inlet....wierd i know, but that took the load of the turbine and allowed it to spin faster. so awesome.

in the same lab they have a 1.5litre V6 cosworth formula one engine. on full boost it produces a cool 1500Bhp
