turbo tax question

No Lifer
So do we need to buy a new one every year or is it "software upgrade-able" from its menus since the tax laws change every year?

thx everyone .. I'm surprised people don't just spend that money giving it to accountants to do instead. Basic version is $20 but anything higher (deluxe) is $40-$60.

you'll end up spending a heck of a lot more on accountants than $40. Turbo Tax is great, kinda fun to play with the numbers too and see how things affect your return.

That all depends ... for my brother's tax return it is very simple ... no Gains & Losses or big deductions .. could do on a typewriter on by longhand
Mine, I let my accoutant handle as I have lots of deducitons, capital gains, losses, investment fees, etc

Because my accountant charges me $350 to do my taxes I can do just as well under an hour using TurboTax.

For anybody that is intersted, you can get a FREE version of TurboTax etc if you go through the http://www.irs.gov/ web site. You just have to pay for automatic deposit etc, comes out to be like $9 if I remember correctly from last year. It's just the web based version of their software and there are multiple you can choose from.

Look for the link "Check out Free File" in the middle of the page, http://www.irs.gov/

Be very careful about spouting off incomplete information.
Free filing, (direct deposit is not required) is based on income level and a few other paremeters.

I strongly recommend that you visit the Tax Thread in OT.
