with "few exceptions"? so what is it can they or cant they???? oh wait u dont have a clue right? what do u know about their religion???? if u told someone a 1000 years ago that European Christian monarchs would one day have to have democratic parliaments they'd laugh at ur face. Thank goodness for the divorce of christianity and government!

Other than Turkey (which is having it's own issues) what other TRUE SECULAR democracies in muslim countries are there? Also, most of us don't have 1000 years waiting for the Ayatollahs to switch over to a democratic parliament.

What always gets me about these Arabs is just how well dressed they are. As for this "revolution" its just horseplay. Arabs don't have the courage for Democracy. If anything this will probably will lead to a United States of Iran. Good for them.

What is wrong with fundamentalists seizing power in a democracy?

Really?

Even if fundamentalists gain power legitimately in a democratic process, due to their "fundamentalist" nature they're not so likely to want to give that power up via the same process.

Secure? What do we have thousands of ninjas just waiting to parachute in? What does Egypt have - M1A1's, Apache's, probably some F-15/16's? We aren't going to "secure" that shit.....lol.

No worries....just look what happened to the Iranian military assets we sold them after the overthrow of the Shah. Hard to keep things running when you can't get the parts for them.

There are a lot more items of each that are referenced by ayabe that have been delivered to other countries as well. The F15/F16s are in use all over the world; same with the helos. They may not be as advanced as what Israel and the US uses; but they still pack firepower and the basic componets will be interchangeable within the model

I think Iran was the only other country that received the F14s which is why the embargo worked there

Mubarak proves he's not a dictator... by sacking his government and naming himself head of a new one. I'm not entirely convinced :hmm:

I suspect this is going to end just like in Iran, with the Egyptian people overthrowing one dictator and getting an even more repressive Islamic theocracy masquerading as democracy in its place. Bad news for America, very bad news for Israel.

Maybe VERY bad news for inhabitants of Cairo and Alexandria. The Israelis have nukes, so just when you think you're about to kill all the Jews, there goes your troop concentrations and your cities.

You have to let nations/civilisations find their own way through the whole theocracy thing though.

Catholic Europe had to go through it we should let the Islamic world go through it. Continually treating them like some little child that needs to be lead is not going to ever bring them to a stable future. It always makes us the represser of their freeedoms.

The Israelis should immediately put their nuclear deterent on full alert for precautionary measures. I highly doubt any new ruler of Egypt would want to commit national suciide. Never know though.

If that's what Egypt wants then that's what Egypt should get. They will either be our friends or enemies, and it is far more beneficial to be our friend than our enemy.

Agreed, to all three. Although I can recognize the justice of something without having to like its results. LOL

Got to hand it to these people... When they get pissed, they get pissed.
Can't imagine what it would take for people in our country to take to the streets?
35% unemployment? More bailouts? Home foreclosures triple? Obama provides his birth certificate but we discover Joe Biden was actually born in Canada?

And what’s this with the internet? I know people that live in major cities here and still can't get anything other than dial-up.

I'd bet Egypt also has high speed rail system and streets without potholes.

I'm just saying its totally not the same thing.

he asked what it would take to get people on the streets, not to revolt and try and over throw their government. apparently all it takes is for some cops to beat a black man on film for Americans to take to the street. sorry i'm quite literal and really suck at sarcasm.

Well I forgot to give the neighbours lawnmower back on time. He was out there cursing and shouting.

Is that the same thing?

[sarcasm layered on really really thickly to help,. This did not really happen]
