Tuniq TX-1, AS5, STG1, or MX-1

Is the TX-1 thermal paste that comes with the Tuniq Tower good or should I make sure I buy some other thermal paste with it? Last time I built a pc Arctic Silver was the best, how is that stuff now? I saw a few posts about MX-1 and the Zalman STG1 too but I'm not familiar with that. Also for the Core2Duo do I want to spread the paste first like with the Athlon XP or do I put a line down the center and let the heatsink smooth it out?

So I was looking at the Arctic Cooling website and noticed there's a new MX-2 that supposedly is better then MX-1 and AS5, I can't find anywhere to buy it though?

That depends on what MX-2 really is. MX-1 is rebranded Shin Etsu G751. What MX-2 will be is anybody's guess, but it may be rebranded Shin Etsu X23-7783D or one of Shin Etsu's other products. Based on this:

It doesn't look any better than X23, and X23 is already available. IC Diamond 7 is going to be a better TIM than MX-2.

Thanks for the link!

I love MX-1, but I'll try MX-2... if I can find it...

Personally, I'll pass on Icy Diamond 7 Carrot Grease, or whatever it's called. The name alone sets off bells & whistles! :D

Up to you...

Let me put it this way - I own two Tuniq Tower 120s. The included Tuniq TX-1 paste looks and feels like AC MX-1 paste to me, so it probably is, but I don't know this for a fact. I'm not a betting man, but I'd be willing to wager on this...

Truth be told, these things work so good, I don't think it matters what you use!

To digress, I remember reading about a Mopar 440 mod. You put a 3/4" stroker in it, and it turned it into 505 cubic inches. They said it had so much power you didn't have to worry about putting an aftermarket cam in it - the stocker worked fine!

It's the same thing with the Tuniq Tower. These things are so brutal that any thermal compound will work!

Put yet another way, I wouldn't worry about it... I just happen to be a MX-1 fan boi... which is probably what's in the TX-1 tube anyway! :D

TX-1 certainly isn't going to cause you any trouble. If you want some aftermarket grease that will work better, IC Diamond 7 is turning in some great results. Or you could try ShinEtsu X23-7783D or MX-2, your call. They'll all be at least a hair better than TX-1 I suspect.

Heh, your call. Some positive results on IC Diamond 7 have already been reported, but I also want to try some myself one of these days.

If all else fails I can always go back to X23.
