Tuniq Tower

I am using a Tuniq Tower to cool a e8400 OC to 3.6 Ghz for the past 2 years and the CPU has been pushing its maximum heat limit the entire time. (Vcore 1.368)

Heat is holding me back for certain.. so I was wondering if in the last couple of years the air coolers have improved enough for me to upgrade??

Also.. (not bang per buck) What is the BEST current air cooler??

I would like to tweak my PC a little more because I want to build a new system and give this one to my wife. I don't want to give her a slow/or hot and unstable system.

Peace
Rich

uh...try being a little less specific.

Temperatures? Motherboard? Ram? Case? Fan speed?

You shouldn't need that much Vcore to get to 3.6, so if you can't get it stable below that you've got different problems.

Best is the Noctua NH-D14. It's huge. Next is Megahalem or Thermalright Venomous X.

Temps are about 50C at near idle.. web surfing and such. Temps are about 80C when 3D gaming. Motherboard is Abit P35-E Ram is 4 GB Gskill ddr2 1000 pc2-8000 part number F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ Not the best ram.. but pretty good.

I have had this system for a couple of years and tried everything I can think of to lower voltages and increase my clock speed.. without any luck. I have even found threads specific to my motherboard and still no luck. The overclocking gods have not been kind to me for a few years.

Fan speed.. controlled by BIOS.. I think its about 1900.

Is the Tuniq Tower a useless relic?

The Tuniq Tower is a bit out-of-date. It has since been eclipsed by the Megahalems, Venomous-X, Nh-d14, and Arrow (CoGage Arrow, that is). Of course there was the TRUE and TRUE Copper, but I don't know that I'd recommend either one of them at this point.

Many people say the nh-d14 is the best, but some are starting to say that the CoGage Arrow is (potentially) better. I have even seen one review where the TRUE Copper beat everything, but it took 6000 rpm fans and Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra to make that happen.

Using "normal" TIM and fans that won't make your ears bleed, I'd throw my lot in with the nh-d14 or Arrow.

btw, have you tried . . . dusting the interior of your PC? I know dust hurt my overclock on my x2-3600+ once enough of it accumulated.

LOL Damn good call on the dust.. I used 2 cans of air today cleaning out my Tuniq Tower and case fans... lots of dust. I went down about 2C afterwords, If you have your temperature program open while you blast the heatsink with cold air you can see the temps drop for a min. :p

Kudos for putting that thought together. :p

EDIT TO ADD: I am using that Antec case that pretends to be a good case.. cant remember its number.. (Ahhh looked it up. Antec P182)
Most annoying and useless case I ever owned, but the air flow is decent. I have since started using Coolermaster HAF 932 cases.. ugly.. but they get the job done.

I hadn't seen the Arrow before, good call. That thing looks like an IFX on steroids.

It does indeed. It is interesting that the Arrow found its way into the CoGage lineup when Thermalright has mostly used the CoGage brand as a dumping ground for budget HSFs (at least compared to those that still bear the Thermalright name).

I wonder if that gets your CPU high from inhaling all the . . . mmm nevermind.

No problemo. I run my machine with the side of the case off and the case resting on carpet, so I know how dust can be. It's absolutely fascinating how the dust settles on heatsink and fan surfaces when all the fans are fast (80cfm+) . . . except on fan grates where nearly anything can collect, it's all fine particle dust.

Just wanted to update that I did upgrade the cooler to a Corsair H50 and am very pleased. I have increased my overclock from 3.6 to 3.8.. and my temps don't go past 60C. Now its not the heat holding me back.. but not the best of luck with the CPU and mobo.

Peace

I would have to say that they are about the same as both have a 120 MM fan. For the H50 I am using 2 fans on the radiator for a push/pull effect. The pump seems to be not audible .
