Tuniq Tower 120

Recently got my Q6600 installed with the Tuniq Tower 120 and Arctic Silver 5. This is my first after market heat sink as I have always gone with the stock one that "clicks" in to place.

I'm wondering how tight should I be turning the thumb screws with this HS? Obviously I do not want to crack the mobo. It seems to be on correctly but I still have room to turn the screws a little bit more. Im looking for some guidance.

Thanks.

Tips:

1) Don't overtighten.
2) Don't let the screws go through far enough to touch your backplate.
3) If you can't twist the Tower, it's okay.
4) If you can lift your motherboard by the Tuniq, you are good to go.

I hope this can be confirmed by others and be of help to you.

1. agreed.
2. didn't look at that on mine.
3. this is what I looked for in mine, specifically b/c of the well-known TR120's problem of being looser than my x girlfriend.
4. didn't try that, but it's generally a good rule of thumb.

EDIT: Mine is as tight as it will go, right down to the springs and bending my mobo a little, my temps at 3.2Ghz at max load is 59-57-55-59 on lowest fan setting.

Mine bends the mobo a bit. I wouldn't worry about that.

IF you need to use a pliers to keep tightening that is too much.

I tightened mine all the way so that the threads dont show above the motherboard anymore.

I tighten mine by hand until they don't move much anymore, I agree that if you're using tools...that's too much.

Thanks for the responses. Ill have to check mine when I get home and give it a couple more turns of the screw. My Q6600 overclocked to 3ghz is running idle at 42, 41, 37, and 36. When I use prime it goes up to 65c, 64, 60 and 60. Do those numbers sound right or do you think I need to reseat the tower?

What are your Ambient temps and whats your Vcore for the OC?

Also what speed is the tuniq tower going at?

Mine at 3.2 is 59-57-55-59 with an Ambient temp of 18-20c

Mine lasts week at 3.2 was 63-61-59-63 with an ambient temp of 25-27c

both sets of temps were at full load using prime 95 on all 4 cores and fan speed at 1300rpm and a Vcore of 1.344 idle 1.296 underload (Vdroop)

Ambient room temp is 22c. Fan is on med setting (not at home right now to see RPM but it was around 1400 to 1500rpm) and vcore is at 1.35v.

for those of you with the tuniq tower and q6600, do you guys remember your stock temps? b/c mine are at 40c on idle on the hottest core, and running prime95 for about 30min, it would go up to 54c. Should I reseat my Tuniq?

Decided to clean off the CPU and Tuniq, reapplied AS5 using the 2 line method (one line of AS5 over each core) and reseated the Tuniq. This time I screwed it down as far as can go. Now idling at 33,33,25,26 and under load using Prime95 50,50,44,44. I guess I didnt have it tightened down enough. Thanks everyone!

Its not on their site. I have read about where some people put a thin line of AS5 across both sets of cores on a quad processor. I tried finding the URL but couldnt. It seems to have worked for me.
