I didn't really pay attention to this thing, but you can replace the fan for the Tuniq? I'd love to put a better cooling fan in it then the stock one.

I read someone mentioned this, and said that the best performance was with the Yate Loon D12SL-12 (47CFM)

Any comments on this?

THANKS

Yes you can replace the fan, and yes you can have it facing toward the rear (exhaust) of the pc.

Ok the fans came this week.

Aerocool 120MM Xtreme (89.39CFM) (32.46 dBA)

Papst 4412 FGML (67.1 CFM) (32.0 dBA)
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2471/...or_4_pin_Your_Choice.html?tl=g36c15s60

120mm Yate Loon D12SM (70.5 CFM) (33 dBA)

Ok the WINNER is the ------> Aerocool 120MM Xtreme (89.39CFM) (32.46 dBA)

This thing by far pushes more air then the others and the noise on the Yate is the loudest. So I personally think for a 120MM fan for a HSF for cooling, this might be a tough one to beat, and I'm not sure you'd need to push more air, because then you are going to really start getting into noisy fans.

I only tested the Aerocool and Pabst in the Tuniq. Feeling the differences in how much air the Yate pushes compared to the Aerocool I don't see how it's going to cool better so I didn't bother testing it, since it's not much different then the Pabst.

The Aerocool gave me under load with Orthos 3-5c cooler temps over the stock Tuniq fan.

Another thing to consider the Tuniq fan for whatever reason has 9 blades, maybe more is better, well if that's true the Aerocool has 12, does it help, well all I can say is the push and pull of air on this thing is much better then the Yate and Pabst.

For me in the end the Aerocool seems like a really nice fan for cooling, and pushes more air for better cooling. :)

I've been wondering... does this huge Tuniq Tower 120 fit on a DS3?

My Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro seems to just barely fit and is very close to my SB heatsink.

Yes it fits a DS3. However, I need to mention two things....
1) The position of the CPU power connector and the CPU fan connector on the motherboard is pretty tight if you have a case the sits the power supply above the motherboard. The heatsink wound up with less than 1 inch clearance from the power supply and was impossible to get my fingers in there to make the connections. I had to unscrew the power supply and push it in so that I could get my hand into the case from the power supply opening in order to connect these two.

2) Buy some electrical tape and cover the heatsink backplate on the side that touches the motherboard. I have seen a report or two that the all metal backplate potentially causing shorts on the traces on the motherboard. Also since your covering the whole backplate with electrical tape, do not bother removing the paper covering the sticky foam on the backplate. I even went so far as to place tape on the four corners of the backplate that has the screw holes (take a half-inch piece of tape, crease it slightly, cut 2 Vs diagonally at center towards one another, straighten tape back out.....there you have a piece of electrical tape with a small diamond hole in center for the screw hole to pop through).

1) Paper is not in direct contact with cpu...it has electrical tape covering it and is then placed on back of motherboard which then has several levels before reaching the CPU.
2) Even somehow magically the temp could tunnel all the way there. Good luck setting fire to paper at that temp.

Was exaggerating about actual fire but take a look at this:

The foam material used in that link, along with other foams used in packaging, melts at a fairly low temperature. This is usually done to make the material more biodegradable/environmentally friendly. Temperature where the most packaging foams melt << temperature where paper ignites (230+C).
