I am looking at the Tuniq Tower 120 for my 4000+ so i can overclock it from 2.4ghz to 3ghz...Is the Tuniq Tower the best?

I don't know how much luck you'll have hitting 3.0Ghz on air. Most people seem to need watercooling (or better) to hit it because nearly all the chips I've seen require a fairly high voltage to reach that (1.6+).

Yes very good in my experience. It's very QUIET on the low speed setting and still has the ability to keep my FX60 at 2.9 with default voltage stable running prime95 (both instances) for a week and a half non stop. :)

Again there is no such thing as the best heatsink!!
due to the many variables involved from system to system.

The Tuniq, Scythe Ninja, Big Typhoon, Zalman 9500 and the XP 129 and the SI 120 and the XP90c are all top tier heatsink with a variance of 1c--3c between all of them!!

Good Luck!!

dont forget the sonic tower in that list, great heatsink. Its good if u have good airflow as the two sets of fins are spaced out. It litteraly does not even get warm in my case.

That's crazy but there it is. :)

Out-of-Date test results. In that setup, thier using a 3000+ (winchester) and only 512mb of RAM......thats not much of a system to test a water cooling solution on, much less an air cooler.

Give me results of that cooler beating out water on a test bed that uses at least an AMD 64/X2 CPU >= 2.2GHz or the Intel equivalent, then ill admit im a jack@ss and be your slave for 1 minute.

You could do a lot in a minute. :Q

Again Howard I have done tests on both my sytems and I get different results....as have others...I refer back to what i said originally--

** from one system to another those same tests should but often times they do not remain true!! Thus all those tests prove is that under the consditions of the testing site thats how those Heatsink operate!!***

Are all of the watercooling setups its compared to there just the crappy kits? If so, then there are several HSFs that can compete with them, including several of the Zalman and Thermalright ones. A properly setup component watercooling system will beat any HSF, although it will cost considerably more. I always think of this type when I see watercooled, as the kits, while decent, are generally overpriced and/or underperforming.

The Tuniq Tower is definitely a nice HSF, and its been well reviewed, but I just don't think its reasonable to expect it to be able to allow you to reach 3.0Ghz. It seems to me, that usually, whatever you can get on air, mostly any good HSF will allow you to get, but to really push your chip, only watercooling (or better) will give you adequate enough cooling to push higher voltages that are normally required to get that little extra.

Its very dependent on your CPU. There are a few that probably can hit 3.0+ Ghz on reasonable voltage, but the majority of them will require quite a bit higher, that I wouldn't feel comfortable pushing with aircooling. Some can hit 2.8 with stock voltage, but then need a lot more to get any higher.

The OP never really gave us much details on his chip. If he's done it before and at what voltage, or if he's just doing some wishful thinking (so many people bought certain chips hoping they could hit 2.8 like some of the reviews did, only to be disappointed with getting 2.4-2.6).

I hit 3.2GHz with a voltage boost (1.5V) and running the fan at high. I prefer to run at stock voltage and low speed all day long - 2.9GHz is stable. It seems at 3.0GHz is where the voltage has to be raised. I prefer to have a margin and not have to worry about things. 2.9GHz on AMD is not too shabby. ;)

By comparison 2.8GHz was all the stock heatpipe cooler could do and boosting the voltage resulted in temps shooting well over 60C and crashing. Even with the fan at full speed - and quite noticeable.

Yes a real w/c setup will definitely cool better but at a major hassle compared to a bolt on heatsink.

The machine that makes'em ba-loo up, or so we've been told :D
I think it over-heated just before the big bang.
