Tuniq Tower 120 experience...

Has anyone had any experience with the Sunbeam Tuniq Tower 120 LED vs the non-LED version? I was wondering if the LED fan that comes with it would make any difference in processor temperature. I know the led will generate some heat but I wouldn't think it would be significant enough to affect processor temp but I could be wrong.

Specs:

Tuniq non-LED

fan: 1000 - 2000 RPM
Thermal Resistance 0.16 - 0.21 °C / W

Tuniq LED

fan: 1000 - 2000 RPM
Thermal Resistance 0.16 - 0.21 °C / W

The fan is the same othe than LED lights. The performance should be identical.

However, the LED version costs more and once you start approaching high $60s, it could make sense to get a Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme with an LED fan. Of course if you care about LED lights, it would be better to just get something like dual 12 inch Blue LED cathode tubes for $10 or so. This way you'll get much brighter illumination.

I can get the tuniq 120 LED for around $55 and it at least comes with a good fan. The Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme doesn't come with a fan so when it's all said and done you'll be around $80-$90. I think the tuniq 120 would be the better deal.

s-flex fan costs 10$. Ultra should cost 65$ and with some luck 55$ AR + 10$ for fan = 65-75$. Not 80-90$. If you are gonna spend 60$ or so on a high-end cooler, might as well go the extra mile and pay 10$ more the best cooler there is.

I just picked up that LED version for my new build. haven't gotten all the parts in yet, so I have yet to have any experience with it. I stayed away from the Thermalright mostly due to the cases of having to lap it (using a Q6600), and I did not want to deal with that.

yes I agree with other posters, if you spending at or above 65 I think TR 120 Ultra Xtreme is the better choice. As for tuniq, I got mine on sale for about 45 bucks with a non-LED fan, it does a pretty decent job, just not the top of the line performance. But if looking for near top of the line and decent price, tuniq 120 won't disappoint you.

I got the tuniq vs the u120x b/c of the cost (55 shipped vs 85-90 shipped) at the time and the enormous hassle that would have been involved with lapping/setting up fan/etc of the u120x. Also, the tuniq is slightly smaller and it barely fit in my case. Does anybody out there have a TR ultra 120 xtreme in an antec 900?

I agree. I still think that the Tuniq Tower 120 is the BEST "out-of-the-box" CPU cooler on the market. I say this without bias even though I own one and it has performed quite well in every regard.

yes saw a guy on other forum with TR 120UX and antec 900, but forgot weather the dude modded his case or not, he might have.

there are so many antec 900's out there, you'd think that it would fit. of course, that's one of the problems with the TR, their cooling unit rocks but it's a royal pain. If I wanted to spend hours and hours jacking around with lapping, fan installation, etc, I'd just spend and extra couple hundred and get a water cooling kit.

I think the Antec 900 is wee bigger than my Lanboy, so I checked online that TR won't fit my case for sure. I think if there's a problem you can always modd the side panel to make the TR 120 to fit. I personally regret not getting a bigger case now, never suspected all that sir coolers can be so big now.

Thanks for the help everyone. I ended up getting the Tuniq Tower 120 LED for $58 (with shipping) from coolerguys.com.

Enjoy the purchase. It took me a couple tries to set it properly but it works pretty well keeping my Q6600 in the 63-64*C at load at 3400ghz.
