Tuning monitor Brightness ?

Do someone know other software beside Displaymate that can be used to fine tune my monitor Brightness setting. I can not find the right Brightness setting with DisplayMate test patterns. For my Home theater I use Video Essentials DVD and it really make a difference when the Brightness and Contrast are well set. I think that it is a great interest for all of us to fine tune our monitor to reference.

I will appreciate our help.
