Gigabyte 8IEXP
2.4GHz P4 sSpec:SL6D7
512MB Kingston 333MHz DDR2700
80GB WD800JB (8MB Cache) NTFS IDE1
30GB Maxtor Fat32 IDE2
64MB G4 TI-4200 drivers: 6.13.10.3082
Intel Accelerator 2.2.0.2126
WinXP Pro SP1
I haven't...yet overclocked, so my settings are factory.
I'm a bit wussy when it comes to overclocking so if anybody wants to build my confidence in this area, I'll give it a whirl. And be descript or gimmee a link because I'm a novice.
Problem:
There is something goofy going on with my computer. I don't get errors at all, seems rock stable, but it seems to hesitate, bog down, more than my old 800MHz.
Examples:When I end my screen saver (which is a blank screen) the desktop and the programs running comeup as if the processor is heavily tasking and the hard drive will run a bit. Almost as if the stuff wasn't cached right in memory and dumped onto the hard drive. I'll click on an icon and not get a response. The icon visually/audibly clicks, i hear the hard drive begin to respond, but then nothing happens. In short I would conclude that it may be a cache or memory management issue.
Hypotheses: 1)The memory is only running at 266Mhz instead of 333MHz therefore it hangs a bit by design. What can I try if so.
2) I've never had a drive NTFS formatted maybe this is normal. I don't think this is the issue.
3) Intel Application Accelerator Software is written poorly or isn't configured to work with a HDD having 8MB cahche. I guess I installed it because it was on the Gigabyte Install disk. http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/reasons.htm. as Im writing this my gut is leaning on this one.
4) Video Card drivers? ahh don't know about this one.
Depending on what bench utility I use, the processor is shown running at anywhere from 2.36MHz-to 2.411MHz (not fluctuating just different) so it lessens my confidence that I see the correct specs for the hardware.
I do have EasyTune 4 installed for tweaking.
Any and all help.
Thank you,
Brian
