TuneUp 1 Click Maintenance

I used this program and now when I try to open a folder it opens as "Notebook" in OneNote.

EDIT*** Also, when I try to open the recycle bin, it creates a shortcut to it.
Last, when I try to open the C: drive, it opens Computer Management up.

I was pissed off and uninstalled TuneUp. I didn't see any "undo changes" thing in the 1 click maintenance anyway. I'm sure it was there somewhere, but it wasn't in my programs menu either.

Anyone have the registry values to fix these?
Even if you have one of them I'll take it.

TIA

EDIT*** I know that program screwed up my registry values, but I don't know the default values.

Messed up entries

My Computer:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell\Manage\Command

Value is: %windir%\system32\mmc.exe /s %windir%\system32\compmgmt.msc

The value is obviously wrong
I need your value please

I need the one to open the C: Drive as well, but cannot locate it for you guys

I cannot find the entry for the recycle bin either. When I click the recycle bin, it creates a shortcut to it. I search for "shortcut to recycle bin" since it replaced the Open entry, but had no luck

I appreciate any and all help, thank you.

EDIT*** So with all the smart remarks and the so-called geniuses here, I've came to the conclusion that this cannot be hard. I do thank the people that did help and this minor set-back will not stop me from helping anyone at all. I would love for anyone, to ask questions of any category and I will help as much as I can.

Thanks everyone.

BustaBust,

I use a program called Registry Workshop to clean bad install items from the Registry. The Windows Add/Remove app always leaves items behind in th Registry... You can download a trial (full) version to use for 30 or 60 days, I think, here: http://www.torchsoft.com/

I used it for quite some time before I bought it. I use it all the time now. Go to the Menu, Search and put in TuneUp or other program identifiers and see what you get. You can delete all of the entries directly, but make a Registry backup first just in case...

Thanks, but TuneUp altered existing registry values.

If you can, can you go through your values and find "Open" in the shell.
I need the path for it.

Also, I need the one for the Recycle Bin and C: drive.

TIA

BustaBust,

I'm using a Mac right now so can't check that out for you, but will try later.

Have you tried to use System Retstore and go back before the problem occurred? That should restore your older Registry...

Noel

BustaBust,

That value you cited above (%windir%\system32\mmc.exe /s %windir%\system32\compmgmt.msc) is correct, at least according to my Windows Registry...

As far as using System Restore, it should be able to call up OLD Registry's that pre-date your problem... when Tune up altered your Registry values, it screwed up your "Current" Registry, it should NOT have altered previously stored System Restore copies of the Registry which would be available through System Restore. If you know WHEN you first used Tune Up, then try going into System Restore and selecting a time BEFORE that and that older Registry may still be there to save your butt.... Usually System Restore will save several copies of older Registry's, depending whether you limited disk space for it...

As for getting those other shell values, for example, "Open" I counted probably 30 or 40 different entries which use that command (for different apps, etc.) I'm not sure how to get those values for you.. Sorry!

Hey brother, thanks for the help.

I did provide the specific folder though because I knew it would show up all over the place.

I actually provided the actual folders... the exact location.

You have been so helpful brother and you don't know how much you have helped.

Thank you all.

🙂

BustaBust,

Don't know if you fixed your problem or not, but I hope so. Glad I could help- if I did...
