Tuition Assistence and 1099G forms -- do I report this as additional income?

Say my work pays for my classes towards a masters degree. I get a 1099G form from the school with information on how much I paid in tuition. My employer actually paid for these classes. Do I report this as additional income? The Help Screen in TaxCut suggested that scholarships etc. that go toward tuition and books of a degree usually do not have to be reported as income. Does this mean I don't have to report this as income?

StormRider,

Please post your tax question in the sticky tax thread in OT. A couple of our knowledgable members have volunteered to monitor this thread and help our members. This will also reduce the clutter of multiple tax threads in OT.

Thanks for understanding. :)

only report it as income if your employer gave you a form. if it is a benefit/compensation for work, they should report it to the IRS and give you a form
