We had a winter storm warning last night - but it didn't really happen as advertised. Mostly a little rain in our area, but the Catalina Mountains got a nice dusting. Snow started at about the 4500 ft level.

Anyway, I walked up the hill and about two blocks from the house and got this view with my 5D, and a 70-300mm DO IS lens with circular polarizer.

Looks nice when websized by IE. All hazy and blurry at full size. Nice image, though.

Seems like you always post full size jpgs. Any reason you don't web size them to say, 1024px on the longest side? Sure would make for quicker loading and easier viewing.

Holy crap, that's Tucson?! I'm so used to seeing it and the rest of Arizona (minus Flagstaff) hot and snowless.

Yeah, Fuzzy - that is a view of the front tier of the Catalina Mountains that are effectively Tucson's Northern boundary.

As for haze, et etc. at full size - that is real early morning mist and remnants of clouds.

This 4 shot panoramic was taken at the same time. I can reduce pic size easily, but there are many in this forum that insist on blowing things up. My view is, leave them at the size IE shows them. :)

Pan

Just checked outside - all the samow is about melted off of the front tier. Up in the depths of the Catalinas is Mt. Lemmon, and that is over 9,000 ft., and for about 2 feet of snow. Great for Ski Valley.

Nice pic, I used to live on the NE side of town: take houghton all the way and backtrack a couple miles on Tanque Verde to avoid traffic leaving DMAFB. A few years later I heard that Summerhaven burnt down. What a shame :(
Did you see / photograph any snow on a saguaro?

Yeah - that was a huge wildfire that destroyed the village of Summerhaven. It has all been rebuilt, and better than it was.

The snow did not get down to saguaro level this time - but last year it did, and I got this shot:

saguaro

Sorry for the large file, but it's more useful that way for several correspondents. :)

Were you in the Forty Niners area or nearby?

I lived at Vista De Sierras apartments: 9225 E. Tanque Verde. At the time I was in the USAF as a flying linguist with the 43rd Electronic Combat Squadron. I really loved the scenery (to look at, but not to touch, everything is spiky) in the area. My wife and I frequently visited Agua Caliente park. I don't think many people seem to know about it. If I recall correctly there is a large pond with a trail around it. Also made the hike to seven falls a few times. I always thought I lived in the best part of Tuscon, although I found myself finding excuses to take River Rd. (Yes, I was one of those jerks who drove through residential areas just because the road is fun) to go shopping in the NW side of town which seemed to be the hot area for development. This was in the 1996-1999 timeframe.

Now I work in Akron, OH. It seems like I've lived in the most sunny and the most overcast parts of the US. I miss the blue skies and the heat lightning, but I don't miss the heat and the snowbirds.

Don't feel bad. I always take River Rd. every time I am there.

River Road has been widened over most of its length now, not as much fun as it was back when it was a two lane with camels living on River just west of Dodge.

ha! I remember those camels! Right between the 2 90 degree curves that no longer exist. But, River is still a fun run between Craycroft and Brandi Fenton Park.

In order to keep the thread, here are two more unusual scenes of winter snow in Tucson:
