Tubes

Rubycon

Madame President
I have several 3-1000Z's doing over 1.5kW at 20M and they glow beautiful blue-purple at full audio. I am told this means they are getting gassy but the output is strong and the audio is crystal clear as pop's moonshine.

Anyone know?

Haha they do but of course not as "precise" as transistors. Of course this is a transmitter we're talking about. 🙂

When I was a kid I used to love to lay behind the "Hi-Fi" and watch the power out tubes glowing that color and pulsate in time with the music. I just found one of those tubes at my parents house over the weekend, no idea if it is still any good.

Get it tested.

Back in the days Radio Shack and the now defunct Lafayette had tube testers for the DIY'rs to come in and test their telly tubes.

Yeah I know and I learned around 1985 that walking into the local drug store and asking the 16 year old girl behind the counter "Where is the tube tester?" had taken on a totally different meaning. 😱
