Tualatin + i810 chipset ???

can you run a Tualatin celeron on the i810 chipset ??

just wondering cause i can pick up an i810 board for 30 bucks and a tualatin for like 45 bucks
 
yeah i would i'm just curious if it would work

has anyone else had experience trying to run a tualatin on an i810 based board ???
 
one reason i ask is because someone i know has this chipset and an older 466mhz celeron and he might want me to upgrade for him
and i would like to put a Tualatin celeron in it if possible
the board supports up to 100mhz fsb and the tualatin celerons run at that bus

are there any changes to the tualatin core that would make it not run on this older chipset ?
 
Tualatin cpu's require the 'B' stepping of the i815 chipset. Different voltages, pin-outs, and signaling are the reasons.

Unless someone has come up with some wacky workaround, it won't work.
 
The voltage from an i810 would fry a Tualatin. It's an FCPGA platform, not an FCPGA2 platform.

You need a Powerleap PL-370/T socket adapter. And then it's not cheap anymore.

The cheapest way to do Tualatins is slot1 mobos with hard-modded slockets. Gotta like to solder to do that though.

Nope. My last Tually was my PIII-S 1.26 @ 1.5. Running a P4 1.6A @ 2.4 now as my primary rig. One of the kids PC's is a BH6 with a slocket and a CuMine Celeron 1G @ 1120. I've toyed with the idea of a Slocket mod and popping in a Tually Celeron 1.4.
 
The Tualatin based CPU's are NOT compatible with i810 chipsets. If you remember, the Tualatin is just a shrunken down Coppermine core (which used the i815e chipset) and manufactured through Intel's 0.13 micron process. The only chipset that I'm aware of that supports Tualatin based CPU's are the i815ep chipset, which is a derivative of the i815e. I think VIA might produce chipsets that support the Tualatin CPU's as well.
 
The Tualatin has some enhancements compared to the Coppermine core besides just being 'shrunken' to 0.13micron. It has data pre-fetching added so it runs faster than a CuMine at the same clock speed. VIA and SIS also made compatible chipsets (VIA 694T and Sis 630T). But like somebody has mentioned, Tualatin based CPU's can be made to run on non-compliant boards by using adapters.
